Denver shut down its former quarterback to wrap up Week 7 with a 27-9 win over Houston.
The NFL has wrapped up Week 7, and as we approach the midpoint of the season the playoff picture is starting to take shape. We're still a long way from any serious playoff races, but the contenders and pretenders are starting to get well-sorted at this point.
In the final game of the week, Brock Osweiler struggled against his former team as the Denver Broncos rolled to a 27-9 victory over the Houston Texans. Osweiler passed for just 131 yards on 41 attempts and Denver leaned on its ground game (190 rushing yards) and defense to get the win.
This Sunday started early with another London game, but this one comes with a twist. Rather than being held at Wembley Stadium like every other London matchup, this game was being played at Twickenham Stadium, a historic rugby cathedral that's been standing for over a century. That added just a little flavor to a not very pretty 17-10 win for the Giants over the Rams. Despite a four-interception day from Case Keenum, Jeff Fisher insists he's not going to start No. 1 pick Jared Goff.
The game on the 1 p.m. schedule that was the most touted was the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Minnesota Vikings. Philly picked up a big win, 21-10, to keep its race in the NFC East alive while knocking off the last undefeated team in the NFL.
The Detroit Lions won their third game in a row thanks to Matthew Stafford's secretly great comeback skills. New York Jets snapped their losing streak with a win over the Baltimore Ravens, who dropped their fourth straight. The Cleveland Browns remain the only winless team in the NFL after they lost to their in-state rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals.
The most anticipated game of Week 7 featured the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the New England Patriots, an epic showdown between Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger ... or at least it was, before Roethlisberger tore his meniscus last week. Landry Jones started in his place and the game was significantly less exciting as a result, with the Patriots winning 27-16. The NFL just can't catch a break this season with star-studded matchups falling apart.
The San Diego Chargers and Atlanta Falcons brought the dramatics once again. Philip Rivers led the Chargers on a game-tying drive with 18 seconds later and -- following another uncalled pass interference against Julio Jones -- the game headed to overtime. The Chargers won on a 42-yard field goal.
Any hope for Sunday Night Football finding its groove died with whatever the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks gave us. The two NFC West powerhouses provided a battle of defense and field goals all night, and both teams missed easy, chip shot field goal attempts late in overtime in their 6-6 tie.

Major injuries
Geno Smith's first start since 2014 was short-lived after he headed to the locker room with a knee injury. Ryan Fitzpatrick was back under center for the rest of the game.
The Jets were also without Pro Bowl center Nick Mangold after he left with an ankle injury.
Cody Kessler was ruled out after being evaluated for a concussion, leaving the Browns with yet another rookie quarterback. Kevin Hogan became the sixth player to take snaps for the Browns this season.
Bills safety Aaron Williams suffered a neck injury and was ruled out for the rest of the game after a cheap shot from the Dolphins.
The Lions and Washington both lost their top cornerbacks. Darius Slay did not return after suffering a hamstring injury, and Josh Norman exited due to a concussion.
LeSean McCoy played despite dealing all week with a hamstring injury ... and then left the game with a hamstring injury.
