Team USA's women gymnasts continue to dominate the competition in Rio.
It's become clear that American gymnast Simone Biles is just operating on another level. On Sunday, Biles added to her personal gold medal count, and the overall United States' medal count, with a win in the vault finals.
Biles' gold medal in vault is her third, after wins in the group all-around and individual all-around. Her competition wasn't even close to challenging her for the top spot in the vault event. Biles scored a 15.900 on her first attempt, and her second attempt scored at 16.033 for an average of 15.966. Russia's Maria Paseka won silver with a score of 15.253, and Switzerland's Giulia Steingruber won bronze with a score of 15.216.
Madison Kocian, who earned the highest score in the qualifiers for the uneven bars, completed the finals with a silver medal. Aliya Mustafina took the gold and Sophie Scheder of Germany won bronze in the event.
Team USA added another medal in gymnastics finals Sunday as Alexander Naddour took home the bronze in the pommel horse finals. Naddour is the first American to medal in the pommel horse since the 1984 Olympic Games, when Peter Vidmar won the gold and Tim Daggett won bronze. In Rio, Great Britain's Max Whitlock and Louis Smith took gold and silver, respectively.
The United States remains on top of the overall medal count with 65 and currently has 26 gold medals, which is twice as many as the next-closest countries, Great Britain and China. Here's a look at the medal count leaders.
