This isn't how it's supposed to work.
Dustin Johnson has had a really good U.S. Open, but he'll want to forget what happened on Oakmont Country Club's third hole during the third round of the championship.
Johnson was chipping from 20 yards on the par-4, 420-yard hole, which has played this week as one of the toughest holes on one of the toughest golf courses in the world. His chip did not go well.

Johnson's ball rolled back at him after nearly clearing a slope at the bottom of the green. His 20-yard third shot became a 22-yard fourth shot, and Johnson eventually two-putted the hole to make his first double-bogey of the week. It was costly, as Johnson dropped two shots from 5-under to 3-under and gave up sole possession of his tournament lead.
Johnson's got plenty of time to right the ship, and he's done a quality job until this point to avoid costly mistakes. This is the biggest error Johnson's made yet -- even it was really just Oakmont being cruel -- and now he'll have to respond.
