Need help sorting through the NBA playoff bracket maze as the postseason approaches? We've got you covered.
Both conferences have been mighty competitive in 2015-16, and as the NBA playoffs approach we want to keep track of what teams have seeding advantages and tiebreakers. We'll update this tracker daily.
We aren't including the basic standings here -- you can find those at NBA.com with conference and division breakdowns. The tiebreakers listed below only come into account when teams are tied in the standings. Also note that we've only listed potentially relevant tiebreakers, especially for the top teams in both conferences. The Warriors' tiebreak advantage over the Jazz will never actually come into play.
CURRENT NBA PLAYOFF PICTURE
Updated after the games played on April 11, 2016. Charlotte beat Boston in the East's most impactful Monday game, and Atlanta lost to Cleveland. All that results in the Hawks narrowly sticking at No. 3, Miami moving into No. 4 and Boston and Charlotte tied at Nos. 5 and 6 with the Celtics holding the tiebreaker. Meanwhile Cleveland finally clinched the No. 1 seed. Indiana and Detroit were idle.
In the West, Dallas clinched a playoff berth with a win over the Jazz. That Utah loss plus a Houston win over the Timberwolves put the Rockets into the No. 8 seed with a magic number of one. To make the playoffs the Jazz now need the Rockets to lose their finale vs. the Kings, plus Utah needs to beat the Lakers.
