Will Gaustad face supplemental discipline?
The next 24 hours should be interesting for Paul Gaustad after the Nashville Predators center boarded Winnipeg Jets captain Andrew Ladd on Thursday.
The incident occurred late in the second period with the Jets up 3-1. Ladd retrieved the puck at the opposing blue line near the benches but sensed Gaustad bearing down on him. Before Ladd could chip the puck in, Gaustad shoved him in the back and sent him flying into the boards head-first.
Ladd looked shaken up but managed to get up under his own power and retreat to the locker room. He appeared none the worse for wear. Gaustad was assessed a two-minute minor for boarding but remained in the game.
And yet, this seems like a textbook case of a play the league is trying to remove from the game. Gaustad has never been fined or suspended in his career, but one should expect the league to take a second look at this one overnight.
