Fantasy football trade advice, Week 8: Buy-low, sell-high running back trade candidates

Which running backs have the best and worst trade values heading into Week 8 of the 2016 NFL season?

Running back is the position to watch so far in 2016. A lot of backs were explosive early, but Week 7 brought a cooling period with few rushers going off and a number of top names going down with injuries.

As the rusher landscape gets more interesting week-to-week, owners should look to make deals to keep their rosters intact. Here are the players worth trading for and shopping in Week 8.

Buy Low

Chris Thompson, Washington

Thompson is leading Washington's rushing effort in its run-by-committee system. The four-year RB was the leading rusher in Week 7 and also led the team in total yards with 73 rushing yards and 40 receiving yards.

Thompson is a dual-threat back averaging 5.1 yards per carry and 8.4 yards per reception. He stands to see a lot more production while starter Matt Jones struggles to hold onto the ball.

Ty Montgomery, Green Bay Packers

Montgomery is switching to RB now that Eddie Lacy is on IR and James Starks is out for at least a couple more weeks. The Packers are depleted at RB and that means Montgomery will get lots of touches in the coming weeks until Starks can return.

Montgomery is a unique player to watch as a wide receiver now playing running back. He will be used heavily in both in the running and receiving games, maybe more as a receiver out of the backfield.

He has a lot of potential against some weaker defenses in the league in the coming weeks. Anyone looking for a cheap sleeper pick should consider trading for Montgomery.

Sell High

Latavius Murray, Oakland Raiders

Week 7 was a bright spot in what has been an otherwise dull 2016 for Murray. He had 20 touches for 63 total yards and two touchdowns in the win over Jacksonville. The third-year back missed the previous two games with turf toe and was questionable coming into the game.

Murray is Oakland's most utilized RB. However, he is only averaging 4.0 yards per carry in the Raiders' run-by-committee system at the moment.

Returning from injury with a two-score game ups Murray's value. Now is a good time for fantasy owners to shop Murray and see what they can get in return.

Jacquizz Rodgers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Rodgers has been filling in nicely for Doug Martin, but Martin's return is imminent. The six-year veteran leads the team in rushing yards with over 200 more yards than the next rushing leader for Tampa Bay.

For owners waiting on Martin's return, Rodgers is especially tempting. Beyond the impressive numbers he is having in Martin's absence, Rodgers will still be a valuable RB2 as Martin's backup.

While he is hot, owners should use Rodgers to get another top-tier need in return.
