Everything to know about the Olympic swimming finals and semifinals set for Monday night.
Swimming has the spotlight on another night of primetime coverage at the Summer Olympics on Monday. NBC will carry the evening's events live from the Olympic Aquatic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
The night's big-ticket swimming events start at an estimated 9:03 p.m. ET, when Americans Katie Ledecky and Missy Franklin race in a semifinal in the women's 200m freestyle. Ledecky is coming off a gold medal win on Sunday in the 400m freestyle that she made look far too easy. There's another 200m free semi immediately afterward, featuring Hungarian world record-holder Katinka Hosszu
The first final is at 9:21, in the men's 200m freestyle. Japanese gold medal winner Kosuke Hagino had the fastest qualifying time in this race, and American Conor Dwyer was third. American Townley Haas, a 19-year-old from the University of Texas, will also be in the running.
The women's 100m backstroke final is at 9:30, featuring Americans Kathleen Baker and Olivia Smoliga. Hosszu is in this race, as is Australian gold medal favorite Emily Seebohm.
The men's 100m backstroke final follows at approximately 9:38. Two Americans, Ryan Murphy and David Plummer, won their semifinals and figure to have great shots at gold. The United States has historically been dominant in this race, though Australian Mitch Larkin is a threat to get in the way.
The women's 100m breaststroke final is set for 9:54. American Yulia King beat out Russian Yulia Efimova for the top qualifying time in this race, and the two could duel for gold in the final heat.
The night ends with two sets of semifinals, in the men's 200m butterfly and the women's 200m individual medley. The men's semifinal will feature American Michael Phelps against South African Chad le Clos, one of his biggest threats. The women's 200m IM will probably be another episode of the Hosszu Show, as she gears up for that final.
