Little League World Series 2016: Bracket, schedule, teams and scores

16 teams advanced to the double-elimination tournament in Williamsport, Penn.

The 16-team field for the 2016 Little League World Series is set, with eight teams from the United States and eight teams from the rest of the world angling to be the best group of 11- and 12-year-old baseball players around.

Format

The 16 teams are split into two brackets - United States and International - that will battle for 30 games scheduled over 11 days at two stadiums beginning Thursday in Williamsport, Penn.

The tournament is double elimination on each side of the bracket, with the United States winner and International winner playing a single game for the Little League World Series championship on Sunday, Aug. 28.

In addition to the 30 games, there are also two consolation games - to be played on Aug. 22-23 - between the first four teams to lose twice in the tournament.

History

International teams have won the Little League World Series 36 times, and United States teams have win 33 times. An international team has won in each of the last four years. Japan won in 2015 and has won four times in the last six years.

The last U.S. team to win was from Huntington Beach, Calif. in 2011.
