5 incredible photographs from Monday at the Rio Olympics

Some of the best visuals from an eventful day at the Summer Games.

Monday was another really long day of Olympic competition in Rio de Janeiro. Some of the world's best sports photographers were on hand and, as ever, they captured a lot of incredible images. Here are some of the very best.

Bahamian Shaunae Miller literally dove across the finish line to catch American Allyson Felix for gold in the women's 400m final. This was awesome and surely painful.

Felix had to think she had it. She didn't.

Simone Biles nearly fell off the balance beam and had to settle for bronze in that event final. She didn't look rattled, but she knew this was a problem.

Biles touched the beam with her hands – a deduction.

Let's talk about how cool omnium cycling is.

New Zealand's Elia Dylan Kennett races in the men's omnium on Monday. This is such a cool sport, and it also looks extraordinarily dangerous.

French hurdler Wilhem Belocian earned a disqualification from the 110m hurdles for false-starting in his preliminary heat. This is crushing.

Sports can really hurt sometimes.
