Olympic trials 2016, men's gymnastic results: Sam Mikulak leads US team after finals

The United States men's Olympic gymnastics team will be led by Sam Mikulak.

The United States men's Olympic gymnastics team has been set, and it will consist of Sam Mikulak, Jake Dalton, Alex Naddour, Chris Brooks and John Orozco. The notable names missing from that list include Danell Leyva and Donothan Bailey, two men who placed in the top four on the first of two days of the Olympic gymnastics trials.

Leyva was the only man to score a medal for the United States in the 2012 London Olympics, a bronze medal in all-around competition, and was in third place after the first day of trials. But after Saturday's second and final day of trials, he is out of consideration for competing in Rio.

Mikulak, Dalton and Orozco were all Olympians last time around as well, though none earned a medal in London. Both Brooks and Naddour were alternates for the 2012 team. Mikulak was the overall leader after two days of trials, followed by Brooks, who is the oldest competitor of the team at 29 years old.

The trials were not the be-all, end-all when it came to qualifying for the Olympics in the sport of gymnastics. The panel was still selected by a committee, and though Leyva ended up with high scores in multiple events, he wasn't as consistent as some who ended up above him. Naddour is one notable inclusion, as he was ranked 13 out of 18 competitors after the first day of trials.
