St. Thomas scored on a 55-yard fumble return of their own fumble

Just like coach drew it up.

Football is a sport of intense, meticulous preparation. Teams work for months and months to get into the position that Mount Union and St. Thomas currently find themselves: competing for a Division III national championship in the Stagg Bowl.

St. Thomas was reeling from a three-touchdown punch by Mount Union, and needed points badly. Running back Nick Waldvogel took the handoff and was getting decent yards, but then disaster struck and he fumbled.

Funny thing, though, is that quarterback Matt Gould was the one who picked up the ball, and he scampered off for a 55 yard touchdown to bring the Tommies back within one score.

If St. Thomas can complete the comeback, they'll earn their first Division III national championship. If Mount Union wins, it will be their 12th.
